Vineyards

Located between Moulis and Saint-Julien, the Fourcas plateau rises to 42 m. For this reason, the vines enjoys good natural drainage; the wind and the proximity of the forest temper more intense weather, allowing the grapes to ripen at a slow, qualitative rate. The Château Fourcas Dupré vineyard covers a single estate of 47.2 hectares. It is composed of more than 80% Pyrenean gravel, along with clayey, chalky and clay-limestone subsoils. This “Pyrenean gravel” terroir is unique in the Médoc and provides our wine with a very distinctive character – minerality, complexity, smoky and toasty notes on the palate, and finally a remarkable aptitude for ageing.

cellars

Thanks to a continued renovation, our cellars and farming buildings boast all the advantages for creating a “grand vin de Bordeaux”. The vinification vat room is equipped with a high-performance thermoregulation system, essential for preserving the fruit and freshness of our wines. During the vinification process, there is great emphasis on the search for complexity, pleasure and balance. The ageing cellars are old, and particularly suited for ageing wines. The highly comprehensive antique vat room has been preserved in its original state and offers a real step back in time for the many visitors who come to the estate each year.

Ageing and maturing

The wine is matured in barrels made of French oak for 12 to 14 months, refreshed by thirds each year. The malolactic fermentation carried out in barrels ensures that the wine takes on all the aromas of the wood. Particular care is given during blending so as to respect the character of each vintage and the characteristics of our exceptional terroir.
